What is Kahoot?
Kahoot! is the best-known live quiz platform. It launched in Norway in 2013 and has been privately held since January 2024, when a consortium led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management completed its acquisition. A host shows questions on a shared screen and players answer on their own devices after entering a game PIN at kahoot.it. Beyond live games, Kahoot offers self-paced assignments, slides, AI quiz creation, a huge library of ready-made quizzes and separate plan families for teachers, schools, families and businesses (Kahoot! 360).
Best for: Schools and trainers who want the broadest feature set — many question types, AI creation, a ready-made library, self-paced assignments and LMS integrations — and are fine with tiered, mostly annual pricing.
Why people look for a Kahoot alternative
- Player caps are tied to tiers: the free plan stops at 10 or 40 players, and paid teacher plans cap games at 50, 100 or 200 players.
- Teacher and work plans are billed a year up front — awkward if you need Kahoot for one event or one term.
- Features are spread across tiers: polls, puzzles, 5–6 answers, AI creation and full reports unlock at different price points.
- Business pricing starts at $228 per presenter per year for 50 participants, and the free work plan limits sessions to 15 players and 15 minutes.
- By default, players' phones show only colored shapes, so anyone who can't see the big screen is lost unless the host remembers to switch on questions on devices.
- Plans keep changing: in 2024 Kahoot halved the player caps of its $48 and $96 teacher tiers, and several work-plan prices changed during 2026.
Where Quizzo is better
Monthly billing, one price
$9/month with no annual commitment. Subscribe for a single event or term and cancel afterwards.
500 players without upgrading
Every Quizzo game takes up to 500 players. On Kahoot, anything above 200 players means Kahoot! One ($228/year) or a business plan.
Questions on every phone by default
Quizzo always shows the full question and answers on players' devices — no setting to remember. Ideal for big halls, hybrid sessions and video calls.
No feature tiers
Everything Quizzo does is included in the one plan: nothing to unlock and no upgrade prompts in the middle of a lesson.
Far cheaper for events and work
A 300-person company quiz on Kahoot needs at least Pro Plus ($468/year per presenter) or a $299 one-off event plan. On Quizzo it's $9 for the month.
Where Kahoot is better
Question variety
Kahoot has 13+ question types — true/false, type answer, puzzle, poll, word cloud, slider and more — plus slides. Quizzo is multiple choice only.
AI and a huge library
Kahoot can generate quizzes from a topic, PDF, web page or slides, and offers a vast library of ready-made kahoots. Quizzo has neither yet.
Homework, reports and integrations
Self-paced assignments, team mode, downloadable reports and integrations with Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and LMSs suit schools that track learning over time.
Free for small classes
If you teach K-12 with 40 or fewer students, Kahoot's free plan may be all you need — and Bronze is only $36 a year for 50 players.
Kahoot pricing vs Quizzo
As of October 2026, Kahoot's teacher plans are Bronze ($36/year, 50 players), Silver ($84/year, 100 players), Gold ($144/year, 200 players) and Kahoot! One ($228/year, 800 players), all billed annually; personal accounts can pay monthly, from $9 to $44.99 a month. For work, Kahoot! 360 runs from Pro Start at $19/month per presenter (50 participants) to Pro Max at $79/month (2,000), billed annually, and one-off event plans cost $199–$799. Quizzo is $9/month for up to 500 players, billed monthly. For a small class Kahoot can cost less; for groups above 200, company events or anyone who wants to pay monthly, Quizzo is usually far cheaper.
Should you switch from Kahoot to Quizzo?
Stay with Kahoot if you rely on varied question types, AI quiz creation, homework assignments or school-wide integrations, or if the free 40-player plan covers your class. Switch to Quizzo if you run live, game-show style quizzes for bigger groups, want to pay month to month, or are tired of comparing tiers: one $9 plan covers 500 players with the full question on every phone.

Is Quizzo cheaper than Kahoot?
It depends on group size. Quizzo is $9/month for up to 500 players, billed monthly. Kahoot's cheapest teacher plan is $36/year but caps games at 50 players; 800 players costs $228/year, and work plans start at $228/year per presenter for 50 participants. For large groups, company use and one-off events, Quizzo is usually much cheaper.
How many players can join a Kahoot game for free?
On the free Kahoot! Go plan, K-12 teacher accounts can host 40 players per game; personal, student and higher-education accounts are limited to 10. Free work accounts (Kahoot! 360 Express) allow 15 participants in 15-minute sessions.
Does Kahoot show the questions on players' phones?
It can, but it's off by default: players see only colored answer shapes unless the host turns on “Show questions & answers on participants' devices” in the game settings. In Quizzo, the full question and answers always appear on every phone.
Can I pay for Kahoot monthly?
Only on personal and student plans (from $9/month) and the Kahoot! One family. Kahoot's K-12 and higher-ed teacher plans and all Kahoot! 360 work plans are billed annually. Quizzo is billed monthly.
