Quizizz is now Wayground — here's a simpler Quizizz alternative

Wayground, formerly Quizizz, is a K-12 practice and assessment platform run by Quizizz Inc., headquartered in Santa Monica, California, with offices in New York and Bengaluru. Founded in 2015 as Quizizz, it took its new name on June 24, 2025, and added curriculum alignment, lesson bundles and an AI generation hub. Students join with a code at wayground.com/join and see each question and its answer options on their own device, either in a live, teacher-led session or at their own pace as homework. It's known for gamified quizzes with power-ups, a library of more than 20 million teacher-created resources, accommodations such as read-aloud and extra time, and deep integration with school systems.

Best for: K-12 teachers and schools that want an all-in-one practice and assessment platform with homework, reports, accommodations and LMS integrations.

• The free Starter plan stores only 20 resources — a limit in place since August 2023 — and is restricted to basic question types.

• In the US, the Individual plan costs $216 a year and is billed annually only; the main US plans page now lists just the free plan and school quotes.
• The Free-For-Schools program ended on September 1, 2026, moving those users to Starter, where premium question types can no longer be created or edited.
• Since the 2025 rebrand, Wayground has pivoted toward a broad AI and assessment suite — more than you need if you just want a fun live quiz.
• Reviewers in 2026 say reports and student scores can be hard to find, and full LMS sync mostly requires a school plan.

• Cheaper, and billed monthly

  Quizzo is $9/month with no annual commitment. Even if you keep it all year, that's $108 — half the $216 US price of Wayground's Individual plan.

• 500 players on one plan

  There's no plan to pick: any Quizzo game can hold 500 people. Wayground's free plan stops at 100 participants; beyond that you need the Individual plan ($216 a year in the US) or a school quote.

• A game, not an assessment suite

  Quizzo is built only for live quiz shows: speed scoring, an answer chart after every question, a top-5 leaderboard, a podium and music. There are no storage limits or class rosters to set up.

• Works for adults and events

  Wayground is designed around K-12 classes, while Quizzo's quiz-show format works just as well for a company offsite, a conference session or a trivia night. Players never need an account.

• 18+ question types

  Open-ended, drag and drop, math response, graphing, hotspot and more. Quizzo is multiple choice only.

• AI and a 20M+ library

  Wayground AI builds quizzes and lessons from prompts, PDFs, links, YouTube videos and slides, and teachers can draw on more than 20 million shared resources. Quizzo has neither.

• Homework, reports and LMS

  Student-paced assignments, test mode, accommodations such as read-aloud and extra time, plus Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Canvas and Schoology integrations. Quizzo runs live games only.

• Free for 100, paid for 1,000

  The free plan handles sessions of up to 100 participants, plenty for most classes, and paid plans allow 1,000 per session — twice Quizzo's 500.

As of October 2026, Wayground's Starter plan is free, with 100 participants per session, 20 stored resources and basic question types. The Individual (Super) plan costs $18 a month billed annually — $216 a year at the US price — with a 7-day free trial and 1,000 participants per session; prices vary by region and there is no monthly option. School and District plans are quote-based. At $9/month, billed monthly, a full year of Quizzo costs $108 for 500-player games — half the US Individual price.

Stay with Wayground if you assign homework, need varied question types, accommodations or LMS grade sync, or if your school already pays for a plan. Switch to Quizzo if you mainly ran Quizizz as a live game and want that experience without storage limits or an annual contract: one $9/month plan covers 500 players, for classes, companies and events alike.

1. Create your Quizzo account and open the dashboard.
2. Click “New quiz”, paste in your questions and answers, and mark the correct one. Add images and timers where you need them.
3. Press “Start game” to open the lobby, then show the PIN or QR code on the big screen.
4. Players join at playquizzo.com/join on their phones — no app, no account — and you're live.

Quizzo doesn't import quizzes from other tools yet, so plan a few minutes to copy your questions over.
