Kahoot vs Quizizz (Wayground): key differences

  • Who sets the pace

In a live Kahoot, the host moves the whole room through each question together, and a leaderboard appears after every one. Wayground runs teacher-led sessions too, but it also lets each student answer on their own device and move on at their own speed, which is how many teachers use it for practice and homework.

  • What students see on their device

Wayground always shows the full question and answer options on each student's screen. Kahoot shows only colored answer shapes by default; the host can turn on a free setting that puts questions and answers on devices.

  • Free plan limits

Kahoot! Go caps live games at 40 players for K-12 teacher accounts and 10 for personal or higher-ed accounts, with quiz and true/false questions only. Wayground Starter allows 100 participants per session but lets you store just 20 resources and use basic question types.

  • Question types and assessment tools

Wayground lists 18+ question types, including math response, graphing, hotspot, drag-and-drop and labeling, plus accommodations such as read-aloud and extra time, a test mode and a paper mode with QR cards. Kahoot has 13+ types such as puzzle, slider, word cloud and type answer, plus slides, but many unlock only on Silver or Gold.

  • Player caps on paid plans

Kahoot ties the cap to the tier: 50 players on Bronze, 100 on Silver, 200 on Gold and 800 on Kahoot! One. Wayground's Individual and School & District plans both allow up to 1,000 participants per session.

Kahoot vs Quizizz (Wayground) pricing

As of October 2026, Kahoot's teacher plans are Bronze ($36/year, 50 players), Silver ($84/year, 100), Gold ($144/year, 200) and Kahoot! One ($228/year, 800), all billed annually; personal accounts can also pay monthly from $9. Wayground's Individual (Super) plan is $18/month billed annually ($216/year) at the US price, with a 7-day free trial and up to 1,000 participants; there is no monthly option, and prices vary by region. Wayground's US plans page now leads with quote-based School & District plans, and Wayground offers to reimburse teachers who paid for Individual themselves if their school later buys a plan. For one teacher with up to 200 students, Kahoot is cheaper at every tier; at the top end, Wayground's $216 plan covers 1,000 participants against 800 on Kahoot! One at $228.

Choose Kahoot if…

  • you want a whole-class game show where everyone answers the same question at the same moment
  • your class has 40 or fewer students and the free plan covers you
  • you want the cheapest paid tier: Bronze is $36 a year for 50 players
  • you mix quizzes with slides, polls, puzzles or word clouds in one session
  • you also run quizzes for adults or at work, where Kahoot! 360 and event plans exist

Choose Quizizz (Wayground) if…

  • students should work through questions at their own pace, in class or as homework
  • you need 100 students in one session without paying
  • you want assessment tools like math response, graphing, accommodations and a test mode
  • your school uses Canvas, Schoology, Clever or ClassLink and may buy a school plan
  • students should always read the full question on their own screen

Or pick Quizzo if…

  • you run live, game-show style quizzes and want one simple price: $9/month, billed monthly
  • your groups are big — up to 500 players per game
  • players should be able to read every question on their own phone (large rooms, hybrid and video calls)
  • you don't need homework, self-paced or presentation features

Our verdict

Pick Kahoot for energetic, teacher-paced review games and cheap small-class tiers; pick Wayground (Quizizz) if you want students to practice at their own pace with richer question types, accommodations and reports. The free plans favor Wayground for bigger classes (100 vs 40 players), while Kahoot costs less once you pay for 200 students or fewer. If all you need is the live game for a big group, Quizzo is a third option at $9/month, billed monthly, for up to 500 players.
