A Kahoot alternative for parties, weddings and family game nights
Quizzo turns weddings, birthdays and family game nights into a game show: guests scan a QR code, type a name and play on their phones. It costs $9 for the month, you can cancel after the party, and up to 500 guests can play in one game. Here's when Kahoot is enough for your party and when Quizzo makes more sense.
Where Kahoot gets in the way
The free plan seats ten
A free personal account on Kahoot covers only 10 players per game, so a birthday with 25 guests or a wedding with 120 is well past it.
A bigger guest list means a bigger plan
Kahoot's monthly personal plans cost $15 for 100 players, $25 for 200 and $34.99 for 800. A 150-guest wedding needs Gold at $25 for the month.
Annual plans renew on their own
Pick the cheaper annual price for a one-off party (Gold is $144 a year) and the plan keeps renewing each year until you cancel ahead of the renewal date. Consumers can only withdraw within 14 days of buying.
Guests away from the TV are lost
By default only colored shapes appear on phones, so guests at the back tables or out in the garden need a view of the TV unless the host switches on questions on devices.
How Quizzo helps
$9 for the party, then cancel
Billed monthly, cancel anytime. It's one price whether 12 or 300 guests play, up to 500.
Easy for every generation
Point the phone camera at the QR code, type a name and play. There's no app to download and no account to create.
Every question on every phone
Guests at the far table or out on the terrace read the full question and answers on their own screen.
Party atmosphere included
Built-in music and sound effects, a leaderboard after every question and a confetti podium to crown the winner.
Nobody gets left out
Late arrivals can join mid-game, and a phone that locks or loses Wi-Fi reconnects with its score kept.

- Bride or groom?: childhood photos with two answers, as guests guess whose baby picture it is.
- This is your life (milestone birthdays): one question per decade for a 40th, 50th or 60th, with old photos.
- Family history night: 'Which year did Grandpa move to the city?' or 'What was Mom's first car?' with family snapshots as images.
- Group-chat 'who said it?': real quotes from your friends' chat (with permission), with four friends as answers.
- Kids' birthday: big pictures of animals, cartoon characters or planets, easy questions and 30–60 second timers.

Running your first game
- A few days before, subscribe and build the quiz under “New quiz”; 15–20 questions is plenty for a party.
- Add photos to the questions: the couple, the birthday star, old family snapshots.
- Connect a laptop to the TV or projector. For a small group, a laptop screen on the table works too, because every question is on the guests' phones.
- Press “Start game” and click “Turn on sound”. Guests point their phone camera at the QR code (or enter the PIN at playquizzo.com/join) and type a name.
- Press “Start” and switch on “Auto-advance” so the game runs itself while you enjoy the party.
- Crown the winner on the podium, and cancel your subscription afterwards if there's no party next month.
Good to know
Quizzo has no free plan or trial: hosting costs $9 for the month. For 10 or fewer players Kahoot's free plan may be enough, and for up to 50 Kahoot's monthly Bronze plan costs the same $9 and includes more question types. Quizzo is multiple choice only, has no team mode, and every guest needs a phone, so kids without one can pair up with an adult.
Frequently asked questions
What's a good Kahoot alternative for a wedding?
Quizzo suits weddings well: up to 500 guests play on their phones after scanning a QR code, every question appears on their screen, and it costs $9 for the month. On Kahoot, 100–200 guests needs a monthly personal plan at $15–$25.
How many people can play Kahoot for free?
10 per game on personal accounts (40 on K-12 teacher accounts). For a bigger party you'd need a paid plan, from $9 a month for 50 players.
Can we play without a TV or projector?
For small groups, yes: every question and its answers appear on each guest's phone, so a laptop screen is enough for the lobby, leaderboard and podium. In a bigger room, a TV makes the leaderboard moments more fun.
Can grandparents join without help?
Yes, if they can open their phone camera: they scan the QR code, type a name and play. There's no app to download and no account, and every question appears in full on their own screen.
Is Quizzo free for a one-time party?
No. It costs $9 for one month, and you can cancel right after the party so you aren't charged again.
Can kids play too?
Yes, on any phone, tablet or laptop with a browser. Use easy questions, pictures and longer timers (30–60 seconds) for younger players.
