A Kahoot alternative for events, from conference halls to school fundraisers
Quizzo gives conferences, company parties, fundraisers and school events a live quiz that up to 500 guests join by scanning a QR code. It costs $9 for the month, billed monthly, while Kahoot's one-off event plans cost $199–$799. Below: where Kahoot's event pricing gets in the way, ideas for your program and a run sheet for the day.
Where Kahoot gets in the way
One evening, priced like a campaign
Kahoot's event plans are single payments of $199 (200 participants), $299 (1,000), $499 (2,000) or $799 (5,000), excluding VAT, each active for 30 days. That's a steep price for a single evening's quiz.
Commercial use sits at the top tier
According to Kahoot's business pricing pages, marketing and commercial use, such as conferences, customer events or recruiting, is reserved for top-tier plans. Among the event plans, commercial rights for external events appear only on Event Ultra ($799).
School and community events outgrow teacher plans
A school fair or charity night with more than 200 players is beyond a teacher's Gold plan. The next step is Kahoot! One, which costs $228 a year, or $34.99 if you pay month by month.
The far tables can't read the screen
Kahoot's default puts the question on the big screen and leaves phones with colored answer shapes. In a ballroom or gym, guests at the back squint at a distant screen unless the host enables the questions-on-devices setting.
How Quizzo helps
$9 covers rehearsal and show night
Subscribe a few days before, test at the venue, run the event and cancel afterwards. There's no separate event plan to buy.
500 guests in one game
Keynote audiences, gala dinners and school-wide events fit in a single game, on the same plan you'd use for a 20-person quiz.
Every seat is a good seat
Guests can read the question and every answer option on their own phone, wherever they sit and whatever the screen setup.
Built for the stage moment
Built-in music and sound effects, an answer chart and top-5 leaderboard after each question, and an animated podium with confetti for the winners.
Handles the messy parts
Latecomers can still join, anyone who drops out can reconnect with their score kept, and you can remove an inappropriate nickname from the lobby with one click.

Quiz ideas to get you started
- Conference opener: five questions built from the event's own numbers, such as first-time attendees, countries represented and sessions on the agenda.
- Closing-keynote recall: one question per talk of the day, rewarding the people who stayed; prizes for the podium.
- Expo-floor round: one question per exhibitor that can only be answered by visiting the booth.
- Gala intermission: a 10-question quickfire round on 10-second timers between courses.
- Know your cause (fundraisers): 'How many meals did last year's gala fund?' The answer chart shows how far off the room was, and the reveal leads into the appeal.
- Auction warm-up: guests guess the value of tonight's auction items from four price ranges before bidding opens.
- School fair teacher trivia: 'Which teacher has run a marathon?' with four staff names and their photos.
- Company party year in review: one question per month, from the office move to the big launch and the record sales day.
- Volunteer thank-you night: the year's milestones, illustrated with photos from past events.
Running your first game
- Subscribe a few days ahead and build the quiz under “New quiz”; add photos or sponsor logos as question images.
- Rehearse at the venue: press “Start game”, join from your own phone and check the screen, the sound system and the Wi-Fi or mobile signal.
- When doors open, keep the lobby on the main screen with the join address, 6-digit PIN and QR code, and click “Turn on sound” so guests join to music as they take their seats.
- Press “Start” when the room is ready; latecomers can still join while the game runs.
- Turn on “Auto-advance” if the MC wants the game to run itself, or keep a manual pace for commentary between questions.
- Announce the winners from the podium, check full results under “Games” for prizes, and cancel the subscription if you won't need it next month.
Good to know
One Quizzo game holds up to 500 players and has been load-tested with 300 at once, so for crowds above 500 choose a tool built for thousands, such as Kahoot's event plans (up to 5,000). Quizzo has no polls, live Q&A, word clouds or custom branding. Players join with just a nickname, so you won't collect attendee names or emails.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Kahoot cost for a one-time event?
Kahoot! 360 event plans cost $199 for up to 200 participants, $299 for 1,000, $499 for 2,000 and $799 for 5,000 (onboarding required), excluding VAT; each stays active for 30 days. Quizzo costs $9 for a month with up to 500 players.

Do guests need to download an app?
No. Guests scan the QR code on the big screen or type playquizzo.com/join and the PIN into any phone browser.
What if the venue Wi-Fi is slow?
Players can switch to mobile data, and anyone who drops out can rejoin with their score kept. Test the connection at your rehearsal.
Can people join after the quiz has started?
Yes. Late join is built in, so guests who arrive during the game can still jump in.
Is Quizzo good for school events and fundraisers?
Yes: $9 covers the month, families play on their own phones without accounts, and up to 500 people fit in one game. You write your own questions, since there's no ready-made library.
